Two California Highway Patrol officers were patrolling the area of El Camino Avenue and Maryal Drive at 10:40 p.m. Sunday when they saw a gold BMW in a parking lot with the no one inside, the engine running and the driver's side door open, CHP Officer Lizz Dutton stated in a news release.

The officers were parking their car facing the BMW when a man with a flat-screen television jumped from the window of Mr. Haney's Gameday BBQ, she said.

The officers left their patrol car, drew their guns and gave the man orders, which he ignored, Dutton said.

The man got in his car and put his hands up momentarily before suddenly accelerating his vehicle toward the officers, she said.

"Fearing for their lives," the officers fired their weapons at the man, Dutton said.

Due to the recent economic turmoil and plunge in business within the car market, BMW has announced a price increase for most of its cars. Nearly all BMW models sold in the U.S. will see a 0.7% increase on the sticker price beginning Jan. 1, 2009.

The only prices that will stay the same are for the new Advanced Diesel vehicles, which include the 335d and X5 xDrive35d.

The good news is that if you're in the market for the 2009 7 Series, which recently made its debut at the L.A. auto show, the base price for the 750i is still $80,300.

Update: To clarify our original post, nearly every manufacturer raises prices from one model year to the next in the realm of 0.3-1.0%. The news here is that BMW is giving a specific reason for the move.

There were a number of 18-hour days and many financial sacrifices from supporters and Petro, who recently sold his 1992 BMW for $800 to help fund the project.

``It's been my baby for a year,'' Petro said of the movie. ``So many long days, it becomes like a friend. You watch it so many times and try to identify with the characters. It's been my full-time job. The whole crew, everyone, they've put in a lot of time. I'm happy that it's finally time to show everyone what we've been working on. It's exciting.''

The film -- produced by local production company Ream Enterprises, owned by Chad Ream, who was the film's executive producer, and written by Petro's cousin, Josh, who lives in Nebraska -- involves a series of intertwined stories, much like the 2004 Oscar-winning film ``Crash.''
