At the top mark BMW Oracle mono and multihull racer James Spithill came in on starboard tack to lead, with Tom Slingsby speeding in on port, slotting into second ahead of Brad Collett and Hamish Sinclair. Fifth was Glenn Ashby, who flew down the run, quickly over taking Collett and Sinclair. At the top mark for the third time, World Champion Glenn Ashby had sailed through Spithill. Third on the water was veteran Scott Anderson ahead of Dave Brewer, Steve Brewin. Slingsby was nowhere to be seen, and then the green and gold trampoline appeared, about 15th on the starboard lay line, struggling for boat speed, after a gear failure. A disappointed Slingsby had to retire from the race. ‘One of my lines snapped. While I tied it up, I couldn't put any load on it so I had to come ashore.' Ashby won again, from Spithill, Scott Anderson, Dave Brewer, Steve Brewin and Andrew Landerberger.

That leaves us with Red Bull, Toro Rosso, Force India, BMW and of course Ferrari. I can see Mark Webber retiring pretty soon so arguably a 2010 drive for Red Bull could be a possibility. Toro Rosso and Force India are both options, but not for a driver who is still determined to be World Champion and running out of time. That leaves us with Ferrari and BMW. By 2010, Kimi should be gone, leaving Massa, who if he hasn’t had a strong 2009 campaign might not be in a secure position. The problem for Jenson is that I can see many other very strong contenders for the red race seat. First, there’s Fernando Alonso, then Vettel, Kubica maybe even Glock? Though I would love to see Jenson in Ferrari colours, I don’t think it’s going to happen.I think BMW Sauber would probably be the sensible choice for Button, if it were offered. Get rid of Nick Heidfeld, stick Jenson in either with Kubica, or if he’s gone a young new talent. BMW would provide Jenson with probably his last chance for glory and arguably his best chance to end his career on a high note (which is what he deserves!).Hopefully all of this will not matter and Jenson will excel next year for Force Mexico…or Team Telmex? What ever happens, I think Jenson should be rewarded for his loyalty and that he should be given one last chance to prove himself as the great driver that he is.

Thugs set his BMW on fire and put the gas cylinder on the blazing car, just metres away from the house where the youngster was sleeping.Mr Burnett said: "My partner Stacey woke up and saw this orange glow coming from outside the window. I went out into the street and saw my car was on fire and there was a gas bottle on the bonnet."I shouted to get the baby out of the room because our bedroom is downstairs at the front of the house and we have a six-month-old sleeping in a cot no more than 10 feet from the fire and we were in bed next to that."If the gas bottle had exploded then we would probably be all dead. It really doesn't bear thinking about."Mr Burnett managed to get Stacey, 19, and little Ryan out of the house and to safety before the fire was put out.He added: "Fortunately no one was hurt, but we were all left shaken.
